HAPPIEST COMPANIES IN AMERICA TO WORK

After thousands of independent employee reviews and analysis of hundreds of companies, CareerBliss released the 4th annual CareerBliss “50 Happiest Companies in America,” honoring the top companies dedicated to cultivating happier work environments. Thousands of employees from companies around the nation submitted independent company reviews on CareerBliss.com, ranking their employers on the key factors that impact overall employee happiness. Topping the list is the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, which once again lands in the top ten this year, ranking number one. Following Pfizer is Kaiser Permanente at number two. Both these companies beat notable corporations well known for unique company culture, including Apple (number 15) and Google (number 21). A trend among the 50 companies that made the 2014 list is that each organization is dedicated to supporting the employee in career-development programs and cultivating a team committed to providing a positive and rewarding work experience.

“Each year thousands of employees visit CareerBliss to rank and evaluate their employer. We are honored to be able to award the companies that lead the way in providing happy work environments and truly value their employees,” says Heidi Golledge, chief happiness officer and co-founder of CareerBliss.

CareerBliss evaluates the key factors that affect work happiness including: work-life balance, one’s relationship with his or her boss and co-workers, work environment, job resources, com- pensation, growth opportunities, company culture, company reputation, daily tasks, and job control over work performed on a daily basis. The data gathered accounts for how an employee values each factor. Each review is given an average score indicating where the company places between one and five.

Employees from the CareerBliss “50 Happiest Companies in America” state that company culture, senior management, and the rewards and the support they get each day contribute to their overall happiness. Pfizer employees state that the support they receive from their team is key in their overall happiness at work.

“What is unique to the CareerBliss ‘50 Happiest Companies in America’ for 2014 is the diversity we see–companies from technology, finance, healthcare, and retailers are all creating happier work environments for employees,” says Bradley Brummel, PhD in workplace psychology.

With the competition for quality talent increasing, companies look for new ways to attract potential employees with not just money, but an environment that allows them to thrive. “Good human capital development practices that engage workers and create good work environments are needed in all types of companies and are likely to be a competitive advantage, no matter the core purpose of a business. Creating happy and healthy environments for employees creates loyalty, a strong tenure and typically results in great products and services for their customers,” says Golledge.
