Latinos in STEM
In its recently published report, “Finding Your Workforce: Latinos in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM),” Excelencia in Education identifies the top institutions graduating Latinos in STEM disciplines for 2012-13, and spotlights replicable practices and efforts at select colleges and universities.
Key takeaways include:
•Between 2010 and 2013, the credentials earned by Latinos in STEM increased by 74 percent.
•Latinos earned credentials in STEM at a relatively small number of institutions, and many are identified as Hispanic- Serving Institutions (HSIs).
•Latinos graduating with credentials in STEM professions are more likely to be in lower paying service occupations – such as electromechanical assemblers and chemical technicians – than higher paying professional occupations – such as electrical engineers, chemists, and software developers.
