The SIBLEY SCHOOL OF MECHANICAL AND AEROSPACE ENGINEERING AT CORNELL UNIVERSITY, Ithaca, New York invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in dynamics, systems and controls. Applicants must hold a doctorate in an appropriate field, must have demonstrated an ability to conduct outstanding research, and must show promise for leadership in the field and excellent teaching. We anticipate filling the position at the Assistant Professor level, but applications at other levels will be considered; salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience.


We seek outstanding theoretical and/or applied applicants in areas such as: robotics, vehicles, and autonomous systems; aerospace systems; networked and embedded systems in the field of mechanical and aerospace; MEMS; and bioinspired controls. Faculty with other related interests are welcome to apply. Current research in the group has a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary problems extending beyond group and department boundaries and has clear ties to significant mechanical or aerospace applications. Deputy Director, National Institute on Aging (NIA)

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking exceptional candidates for the position of Deputy Director of the National Institute on Aging (NIA) to support NIA’s mission of improving the health and well-being of older Americans by supporting and conducting high-quality research on aging processes, age-related diseases, and special problems and needs of the aged; training and developing highly skilled research scientists from all population groups; developing and maintaining state-of-the-art resources to accelerate research progress; and, developing and disseminating information, nationally and internationally, and communicating with the public and interested groups on health and research advances and on new directions for research. The Deputy Director provides expert advice and counsel to the Director, NIA on the development of and opportunities for national research and research capacity building; on the development and coordination of agreements, both within the HHS/NIH and globally; and, on the Institute’s national and international research and training initiatives.

This position offers a unique opportunity for the right individual to assist the Director, NIA in providing strong and visionary leadership to an organization dedicated to the health and well-being of older Americans. This position will assist the Director, NIA in coordination of all activities related to the mission and functions of the Institute, in the development and execution of plans and policies of the NIA and in the allocation of resources. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, one of the world’s largest medical research facilities, seeks applications from exceptional candidates for the challenging position of Director, Division of Computer System Services (DCSS), Center for Information Technology. The Center for Information Technology (CIT) is an operating entity within the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). The DCSS develops, implements, operates, and maintains the NIH computer center, which is the principal source of computing services for agency scientific and administrative programs. The DCSS is responsible for assuring that NIH scientists and administrators have access to computing resources and facilities that are effective, reliable, available, and up-to-date. The incumbent serves as the Director, DCSS and is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the development, implementation, operation, and maintenance of centrally supported computing facilities and resources to meet the needs of NIH research and administration. The Director is responsible for building, developing, and leading a highly skilled organization capable of delivering centrally supported services to its customers in an open and transparent environment. The Director also serves as a leader in change management to ensure constant evaluation and improvement in Division services. The FY 2006 budget was over $53 million and involves the management of over 100 FTEs and more than 60 contractors. This is a career Federal position in the Senior Executive Service.
