Set Your Sights on Insurance Sales For A High-Growth Career

Growth of the U.S. Hispanic population nationwide is leading to more jobs and career opportunities for multilingual supplemental insurance sales agents and managers

Many employers see workplace diversity as an opportunity to grow and expand their businesses and better serve customers by embracing the reality of changing demographics across America. At the same time, the U.S. Department of Labor has projected that employment of insurance sales agents and managers will grow up to 22 percent over the next several years, faster than the average for all occupations. As a result, the convergence of these two trends provides increased opportunity for multilingual individuals searching for a new career path to find success in supplemental insurance sales.

With the U.S. Hispanic population now over 53 million, about 17 percent of the total U.S. population, it is also the fastest growing demographic. This growth trend is prevalent in major cities, including Los Angeles, New York, Miami, and Washington, D.C., as well as in areas of Texas and Illinois.

According to the Pew Research Center, Hispanics are also the youngest of the major ethnic groups in the U.S., with the median age a full decade lower than that of the general population.

For many of these young adults, supplemental insurance sales can be a great career option.

What is it?
Supplemental insurance helps provide financial protection against the out-of-pocket costs associated with a serious sickness or injury. Those out-of-pocket expenses, such as deductibles, co-pays, and even household and transportation costs, can add up quickly and sometimes be devastating to financial health. Supplemental insurance helps provide financial peace of mind by paying cash directly to the policyholder when it’s needed most.

Plans offered in the marketplace today often include: disability, accident and illness, critical care, cancer care, and whole life. Payment of claims are made directly to the policyholder and may be used to cover co-pays and deductibles, as well as other expenses such as transportation to and from medical facilities, lost income from time off work, or hiring outside help for child care and household chores.

With strong ties to their culture, families, and communities, Hispanics are ideally positioned to help build value-based businesses that serve people while providing themselves with an interesting career path that can help them realize their dreams. Finding the right employer

Sales careers have long been a draw for individuals who are personable, self-directed, ambitious and not afraid of a challenge. However, it’s important to find the right company – one that has policies and best practices designed to help new employees get off to a good start.

Since many sales jobs are commission-based, search for a company that offers some guaranteed income and a comprehensive paid sales training program, as well as employee status and benefits.

Additional factors to look for include:
• Guaranteed income
• Comprehensive ongoing training and support
• Sales tools
• Free leads
• Success recognition
• Employee status
• Career development and advancement
