25th Annual Reader Survey

JOB MARKET: PARTLY SUNNY

In this 25th Annual Reader Survey for Equal Opportunity, participants of different races and ages shared with us important information such as their field of employment, their salaries, and what they like most about their jobs.

Respondents were also asked the various ways in which they look for employment. As in years’ past, our readers used a variety of methods, from Internet job boards to employment agencies, networking via friends and family, college placement offices, and even newspapers.

While the majority of our readers were employed, several participants did note they were unable to find full-time employment in their field of choice.

In what has become an annual listing, we also asked respondents to name the top three companies and government agencies for which they would most like to work or that they believe would provide a positive working environment for minority employees. Turn to page 44 for our annual listing of Top 50 Employers for the private sector and Top 20 Employers for the public sector.

WHO YOU ARE

Questionnaires were submitted from readers of all walks of life. Industry professionals, college students, and employees from nationwide and global companies alike took the time to help us gather this important information.

EMPLOYMENT SNAPSHOT

The majority of our respondents earn $70,000 a year, followed closely by professionals earning between $30,000 and $50,000 dollars annually. The employment breakdown fell into 10 distinct categories:
