How does EMC attract a diverse workforce?

DANNY BEST
EMC believes in people, innovation, and business growth. In order to achieve these objectives, we need a talented and diverse global workforce made up of people from every dimension of diversity—gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, gender identity, experience, education, and more. We want our employees to share their unique perspectives and collaborate with one another. A creative, engaged, and inclusive workplace is the edge that differentiates us from our competitors.

As is true in any technology company, we must deliver forward-thinking product and service solutions for our customers. It is critical we recruit and hire a diverse workforce, and then take the time to get to know them and understand their needs so we are able to help them succeed. In order to do that, EMC fosters an inclusive work environment that reflects the global marketplace and supports a corporate culture in which every employee is valued for his or her voice and perspective.

EMC’s open, exciting, and inclusive culture is an important aspect in our quest to attract top talent. Employees want to work at EMC because of the breadth of programs and opportunities they have access to, and they stay because they believe the company supports and cares about their growth and development.

What was the best piece of advice you received that helped you achieve your professional goals?

DANNY BEST
I have been extremely fortunate in my career to have had a number of mentors and advisors that were critical in helping me navigate through various career decisions. One of the best pieces of advice I’ve received and I still try to follow is to “stay on the learning curve,” which means that you should always be in a role that is challenging and stretching your skills and experience. If you have mastered all the elements it’s probably time to jump to a new curve. The other pieces of advice I’d share would be to ensure that you have a “voice” and that your opinion is heard, maintain a strong work ethic, be collaborative and open to new ideas and assignments, and always put in your best effort.
